In 1926, Chuck Berry was born to Henry William Berry and Martha Bell (Banks) Berry. He was born in the city of St. Louis, Missouri. He was recognized as the fourth child in a family of six people. He grew up in the Ville area, which is located in the north-central part of St. Louis.
